The unreasonable man.

Quote 18 Dec 1 note

Growing up in a rural town, I can remember blindly agreeing with my elders about how, “Boys should be boys and girls should be girls” and how, “We should go back to the way things used to be.” I remember being talked at about everything from religion to the death penalty. I soaked it all up.

I read somewhere awhile back about how every 4 years, elementary teachers will have their students vote for president. In thirty-some years, the children have never failed to predict an election. Right every time. It isn’t magic - it’s simple. Children listen to and accept what their parents say to be the truth. My point is, be careful what you say to children. They believe you. If you have the privilege of molding a young mind, take your job seriously.

(And for goodness sake, be an example of what a kind, accepting, open-minded adult looks like. We need more of those.)
